ABOUT THE FESTIVAL LOCATION

Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria. It is also the biggest city in the country with about 1.4 million citizens (including suburbs). Today, Sofia is a dynamic Eastern European capital, distinguished by its unique combination of European and Communist-style architecture as well as many beautiful orthodox churches. Furthermore, it claims to be one of the few European capitals with beautiful scenery and a developed ski-resort so close to it - the Vitosha mountain. Over the centuries, it has been given several names - Serdica , Sredetz and the remains of the old cities can still be viewed today. Because of its strategic location in the middle of Balkans for a while it had been selected for a new capital of the Roman Empire.

In the center of the city is situated The National Palace of Culture. It is a multifunctional complex, a synthesis of modern architecture and plastic arts, established in 1981. The wonderful spaces are spiritualized by more than one hundred works of monumental painting, sculpture, woodcarving, tapestry, metal plastics and other genres.

The NPC contains 15 multifunctional halls, 55 premises for meetings with a total capacity of more than 8,000 seats and more than 15,000 square meters of exhibition area. The halls of the NPC have received multiple famous artists, such as Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, Alexis Weissenberg, José Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Nicolay Gyaurov, Riccardo Muti and many others.

This location guarantees the quality and credibility of the event. The NPC halls have been booked for the traditional elements of the festival: national and international competitive programs, specially curated focus screenings, parallel musical program and a range of educational initiatives.
